About the Role

Our client is looking for an experienced Senior SQL Database Administrator to join their team and lead the transition from MySQL to PostgreSQL. This is a senior-level position where the ideal candidate will work independently to design, optimize, and maintain robust database systems while driving the success of this migration project.

Key Responsibilities

* Spearhead the migration from MySQL to PostgreSQL, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal performance.
* Architect, implement, and maintain PostgreSQL database systems to meet business needs.
* Develop and manage comprehensive backup, restore, and disaster recovery strategies.
* Monitor database performance metrics, identifying and resolving bottlenecks proactively.
* Ensure database security and adherence to data privacy regulations.
* Collaborate with development teams to optimize database queries and troubleshoot issues.
* Prepare detailed documentation of database architecture, processes, and operational workflows.
* Provide expert guidance and mentorship to team members on database best practices.

Skills and Experience

* Extensive experience as a SQL Database Administrator, with expertise in both MySQL and PostgreSQL.
* Demonstrated success in leading database migration projects, specifically MySQL to PostgreSQL.
* Strong SQL scripting skills and expertise in query tuning and optimisation.
* In-depth understanding of database design, implementation, and performance tuning.
* Experience with database monitoring tools and technologies.
* Excellent problem-solving abilities with a self-driven, independent work ethic

Education and Certifications

* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
* Certifications in PostgreSQL (e.g., Certified PostgreSQL DBA) are advantageous but not essential.
